Polarity

May all beings everywhere
Plagued by sufferings of body and mind,
Obtain an ocean of happiness and joy
By virtue of my merits.

May no living creature suffer,
Commit evil or ever fall ill.
May no one be afraid or belittled,
With a mind weighed down by depression.
May the blind see forms,
And the deaf hear sounds.
May those whose bodies are worn with toil
Be restored on finding repose.
May the naked find clothing,
The hungry find food;
May the thirsty find water
And delicious drinks.
May the poor find wealth,
Those weak with sorrow find joy;
May the forlorn find hope,
Constant happiness and prosperity.
May there be timely rains
And bountiful harvests;
May all medicines be effective
And wholesome prayers bear fruit.
May all who are sick and ill
Quickly be freed from their ailments.
Whatever diseases there are in the world,
May they never occur again.
May the frightened cease to be afraid
And those bound be freed
May the powerless find power
And may people think of benefiting each other.

Ever feel off?  Often times our most difficult struggles come just after the best of times.  And we wonder why such hardships should trouble us, but we never wonder why we deserve the good times.  We're prone to taking them for granted.  And so we are human!  And the cycle continues.  When we think we're in bliss, we forget about the hard times hoping bliss lasts forever.  But there's no such thing as forever.  Everything has an end, even if only just to make room for another's new beginnings.  And so life marches on, relentlessly, with no escape.  We are victims of our own desires, dreams and aspirations, until, that is, we forget them.  Becoming enlightened, divine like God, is the only ultimate goal worth wanting, and yet, the wanting makes it that much more elusive.  Like clockwork, just when you think you've got it, it, whatever it may be, slips away as quickly as it was realized.  And so we struggle to find that balance; between reality and imagination, between me and you, Us and It.  Because we can never know if we've got it; it is immeasurable.  So, all we can do is try...
Alas, fret not!  Through our efforts we inspire others, and so, like wildfire, our wisdom, compassion, intention and grace transcend our embodied selves to enlighten others.  For when we realize our desire for personal gain to be detrimental to the well-being of others, we recognize our greed and its effect upon all.  Clearly, we're not in this alone.

"No one may realize enlightenment until every one has."
